CULTURE boss Sally Medlyn has left her £65,000-a-year post at Liverpool City Council.
The former assistant executive director of culture last night denied she had been asked to leave. She said: "I don't know where that could have come from. It was my decision."
Mrs Medlyn, who will now stay in Liverpool to set up an arts consultancy, said she felt she had completed her job after Liverpool's European Capital of Culture success. She said: "I felt my job had been done in many ways.
"I have worked in arts and regeneration for a long time and have really liked working in that environment. Running a consultancy is something I have wanted to do."
Mrs Medlyn remained tight-lipped about future work plans but said they involved "other bids in the country" which are "still in consultancy stages".
Her role at the city council involved drawing up the Liverpool Cultural Strategy and working closely with Capital of Culture bid leader Sir Bob Scott.
Colin Hilton, executive director of education, libraries and sports services, said: "Sally made a real contribution to Liverpool's winning Capital of Culture team and her work on the cultural strategy has laid the foundations for a wide range of positive developments in the city.
"She also played a key role in setting up the Liverpool Culture Partnership, bringing together community, private and public sector interests in sport, the media, tourism, arts and heritage to ensure that the cultural sector is at the heart of Liverpool's regeneration."
