The Forsyte Saga

LIVERPOOL once again turns back the clock this weekend (Sunday, 6th October 2002) as filming starts on the second series of hit ITV1 period drama 'The Forsyte Saga'.

Parts of the city will be once again be transformed into Victorian Britain.

Canning Street will be used as a location later this month meaning modern signposts will be removed, Victorian gas lamps will be temporarily installed and sand will be heaped onto the road to disguise road surface.

On Monday (October 7th 2002), Liverpool Cricket Club in Aigburth will be used to represent Lords in a scene which will include a crowd of over one hundred extras in authentic period costume.

The first series of The Forsyte Saga was a massive hit for ITV1, attracting almost nine million viewers.

The Granada production - based on the novel by John Galsworthy - highlights the lives and loves of a family of English aristocrats.

The impressive cast includes Damian Lewis, Rupert Graves and Wendy Craig as well as local actress Gillian Kearney.

Councillor Warren Bradley, Executive Board member for Leisure and Culture, said: "The Forsyte Saga proved to be one of the biggest TV hits of the year when it was screened earlier this year, and it's great news that the second series is being filmed here too.

"A major theme of our Capital of Culture bid is the fantastic heritage we have in this city - and this is a wonderful way of showing it off to millions of television viewers."

Film Office manager Lynn Saunders added: "I'm delighted to welcome back the Forsyte Saga to the city. I know the production team were very impressed with the variety of locations we were able to offer them last time, coupled with the co-operation they received from the city council and the people of Liverpool."
