THE Bishop of Liverpool has pleaded with Jack Straw to kickstart the crucial review of Michael Shields’ case.
The justice secretary promised to appoint top barristers to examine the fresh evidence in the Shields case, possibly leading to his release, after a key court hearing last month.
Bishop James Jones wrote to Mr Straw after visiting the 22-year-old Liverpool supporter in prison on Christmas Eve.
The bishop, who has long campaigned for Michael to be released, wrote: “The more time I spend with him, the greater the sense of injustice I feel at his imprisonment.
