HMS Liverpool rugby and football teams will play games against local teams.

The Lord Mayor will present medals to 80 members of the ship's company for their service in the Iraq conflict.

The Type-42 is an air defence platform armed with Sea Dart missiles, a

4.5-inch gun and numerous close- in weapons. She weighs 4,000 tons and has 280 personnel.

Powered by 2 Rolls-Royce Olympus and 2 Rolls-Royce Tyne gas turbines, she is capable of speeds in excess of 28 knots.

There are 14 Liverpudlians among the ship's company looking forward to coming home.

After the visit, HMS Liverpool will return to Devonport for further operational sea training in preparation for her deployment to the Atlantic patrol ( north) directed military task in 2005.
