It is a year since the Type-42 destroyer last sailed into her home port, since when she has been busy on operations.
Student navigators, warfare officers and pilots have been training on the ship, taking them from Scotland to Morocco.
In the war against Iraq in 2003, the vessel was air defence commander to the UK maritime battle group and guardship to the fleet flagship, HMS Ark Royal.
After completing the mission, she went on to the Far East with naval task group 2003.
The Commanding Officer of HMS Liverpool, Gerry Northwood, said: "This year has been a varied and operationally taxing year, but my team has risen to that challenge.
"I am looking forward to our visit to Liverpool, our affiliated city, of whom we are all very proud and where we always get sucha warm welcome."
The ship is exptected in Huskinsson Dock, Regent Road, Bootle at 8.30am on Monday.
The ship will take part in charity fund-raising events and play host to sea cadet units, schools and businesses.
