We fought over who would get to have the Poulet Milanese (£13.95) and I lost, choosing the Wild Boar Saucisson (£9.95) instead.
This was a decadent display of caramelised apple pomme puree topped with the grilled sausages and with panacotta jus roti (a very tasty gravy) poured over it.
The Saucissons were tender, and their saltiness cut through the sweetness of the apple in the mashed potato.
It was an unusual yet entirely successful take on the traditional bangers and mash.
The Poulet Milanese was made up of tender chicken with capers, anchovy fillets and sun-dried tomatoes - a well-considered combination of flavours - served with creamy pomme puree and wilted spinach.
We also ordered a generously portioned side dish of Petit Pois a la Francais (£2.95).
To finish, we decided on Tarte au Chocolat with pistachio ice cream (£5.25) which was truly a chocoholic's delight, and Cinnamon Creme Brulee (£4.95) - a thick, creamy dessert with a satisfyingly crunchy topping. Delicious.
