ACCORDING to common wisdom if something seems too good to be true it usually is.
So when I heard the Italian Kitchen in Liverpool city centre was offering a half-price menu on Tuesday evenings, it left me pondering a number of questions.
"Does that mean you only get half portions?" I wondered, closely followed by "does that mean they use cheaper ingredients than normal?" and "there must be a catch".
Cynicism aside, I have always enjoyed the meals at the Italian Kitchen so the chance to tuck into their fayre at half the cost was too good an opportunity to pass up - even if I was still a little bit wary of whether it could live up to its usual high standards when customers are basically dining two for the price of one.
Upon arrival we were promptly seated, even though the restaurant was extremely busy - word had clearly gotten round - and presented with the a la carte menu.
Drinks were ordered straight away and the helpful waitress quickly delivered them to our table before we had even worked our way through the list of starters.
Despite it not being an Italian dish I went for barbecue spare ribs (£2.10) and I was not in any way disappointed by them.
In some restaurants the ribs can be small and have about as much meat on them as Victoria Beckham, but these were huge with as much meat as you could wish for.
The only slight problem was they were a bit difficult to eat as they arrived in a bowl which was almost full of steaming hot barbecue sauce.
But after allowing them to cool down a little I tucked in and they were as delicious as they looked.
