My partner opted for the staple garlic bread with cheese (£1.45), of which there was more than enough for myself to indulge in as well.
There was plenty of cheese - which isn't always the case, depending on where you go - and the garlic was, thankfully, not at all overpowering.
The only problem with having such satisfying and sizeable starters is it can lead to a bit of trepidation about the main course, but at least my question about the size of the portions on half-price night had been answered.
In the event there was a pleasant gap between the two courses anyway, in all likelihood probably down to the number of diners on that particular night.
Having eschewed the traditional options for my starter I couldn't have chosen a more Italian dish for my main course as I selected spaghetti Bolognese (£3.45).
Again, the portion was more than ample and the taste was fantastically meaty. I've had spaghetti Bolognese on numerous occasions at all kinds of Italian restaurants but I can't think of many times when it was as enjoyable as this.
However, there was a bit too much to plough through - leaving precious little room for a pudding.
My partner went for the lasagne (£3.45) and she was also more than happy with her choice, describing it as perfectly cooked and very tasty.
Our meals were not quite faultless, but they were not far from it and for the price we were paying it would be churlish in the extreme for anyone to be overly critical.
