Our presents to each other earlier that day had been our tipples of choice, an 18-year-old single malt for him and a Rioja reserva for me.
When it came to ordering the wine it was no contest, the Rioja (£13.95) it had to be. However, horror of horrors, they had run out.
Luckily, we were offered an upgrade for the same price and a jolly good deal we got here. If you ever get the chance, have a try of Vina Herminia Excelsus, a flavour-filled glass of sunshine reminiscent of those lazy, warm days in Spain.
The meal, of course, was rounded off with a row but as they say "a row a day keeps the divorce lawyers away" and we strolled off into the (imaginary) sunset to look forward to another year together.
Maybe next year I will even leave our celebratory meal of choice to my husband. But then he has always been good at making lucky choices. He married me, of course!
