THE Tate Liverpool and the Open Eye Gallery are joining forces with the London -based photographic events outfit Shoot Experience to stage what they all declare will be the most fun Liverpudlians have ever had with a camera.
This rather surreal event is inviting members of the public to take part in a kind of treasure hunt where, reveal the organisers, the participants will be led to the ‘hidden bounties’ of the city (sic).
The idea, it seems, is that photographers of all ages and genders – who have to pay £10 to take part – will be given a series of clues about the exciting and eclectic cultural history of Liverpool.
Their task is to then take photographs of the answers. It is says a spokesperson for Shoot Liverpool – as the event is being billed – open to anyone with a thirst for creative adventure.
The theme is ‘water’ based and the event is part of a seven cities wide tie-in which includes the treasure trails and a series of exhibitions. The other cities are: Toronto, London, Bath, Milan, Berlin and Barcelona.
Participants will form into teams with digital cameras and will embark on rediscovering the city of Liverpool. Once a clue sheet and map have been collected the teams will spend the afternoon deciphering clues and taking photographs. There are ten clues in total.
At the end of the day the contributions will be judged at the Tate Gallery and there will be a slideshow of the images, and an awards ceremony.
Prizes will be handed out for the most inspired photographs and will include the latest Olympus digital camera.
Eventually The Shoot Experience per se will amass a large number of photographs from each of the different world locations. A selection from each will then be included in an exhibition, which will capture the diversity of each unique city.
