It's ice work!

Sep 15 2006

Ian Starkey will be bringing an ice sculpture to the ECHO fashion show

IT'S n-ice work if you can get it.

And, according to ice sculptor Ian Starkey, more and more people want it.

"The scale of parties and events has really take off in recent years. We provide everything you can need but our ice sculptures are a key area of our work and we do them for weddings, 18th birthdays and even first communions," says Ian who runs Do Me a Favour in Hunts Cross shopping centre and who will be exhibiting at the Liverpool ECHO Fashion Show.

A sculpture can take days to complete from start to finish with the time spent on sculpting dependant on the size of the piece.

"I can do almost anything from a swan to a cap and gown, a prancing horse, a cruise ship and even a five feet tall fairytale princess carriage," says, Ian who has been sculpting for almost a decade.

Ian, married with two children, freezes his own ice using specialist machinery from the USA and, of course, always wears gloves - "so no, I don't get chilblains."

For the fashion show he's preparing something special in ice for our readers. "I'm thinking of doing something with a fashion theme. I hope it will be a real talking point."

The ECHO Fashion Show, sponsored by Lewis's, takes place on October 10 and 11 at the Lifestyles Tennis Centre in Wavertree.

Big names including Marks and Spencer, George, Coast and Karen Millen are all preparing to show their autumn ranges on the catwalk while the event will also feature a lifestyle and beauty exhibition.

With demonstrations, a goody bag and a free drink for every reader the 2006 show is bigger than ever.
