PERHAPS Liverpool's best-kept secret, the Camel offers a cool, relaxed alternative.
A relatively recent addition to the Liverpool club scene, the Camel is the perfect choice if you want a club atmosphere without having your eardrums perforated by over-loud chart music and drinking from a plastic glass.
The Camel has a very distinctive North African-style interior, with white stuccoed walls and hanging drapes, which contrive to make you feel relaxed and at ease; shut your eyes and you can almost feel that cool desert wind (unless it's the air-conditioning!). Get there early and get yourself a comfy, candle-lit alcove. The dance-floor can be quite intimate, and is mirrored on one side (so try not to chat up someone's reflection).
The music itself is mix of RnB and Hip Hop favourites and urban anthems six days a week minus the attitude of other similarly scoped club nights in the city. Mondays are student night with most drinks at 99p but no compromise on the audio refreshment.
Standard dress code tends to be smart casual, although you won't be turned away in tidier trainers (think upmarket street dress). Drinks are at the standard club prices, but at only a few quid for admission, a night at the Camel has to be worth it, if only for the relaxed, trouble-free environment.
