FROM its humble beginning in "the room above the pub" to a successful twice monthly event, Chibuku has certainly taken the Liverpool club scene by storm and you can't get away from its name in the music press recently as Chibuku also received a nomination for best small night in Muzik Magazine awards.
The strangely named night was the idea of three likeminded students who, fed up with "flat atmospheres, overrated DJ's and silly bar prices" decided to give the Liverpool clubbing scene a new direction (one that the city had been crying out for, for some time.)
Born in March 2000 the night instantly became an 'unruly and riotous house party' with an atmosphere unbeaten pretty much anywhere in the country, let alone Liverpool.
Proving that you don't have to have a big venue or expensive sound system to make for a good night, the Chibuku crew have achieved amazing success in the city, attracting not just students but loyal clubbers with a passion for real music.
Thankfully though, as its reputation grows the night has only got better and eager to avoid the mistakes of other clubs promoters Damo Jones, Charlene McDaid, Will Jamieson and Richard McGinnis have made sure Chibuku has maintained the unique identity and originality it started out with.
The night, now based at The Masque, on Seel Street, has seen an eclectic mix of DJ's, from the home grown talents of Luke Carr and Wandy to Radio one's Giles Peterson and Liverpool lad Yousef.
