Movie on the cards for Sex and the City

Feb 27 2004

Daily Post

LIVERPOOL-BORN Kim Cattrall, who plays man-eater Samantha, is said to be threatening to scupper a movie version of Sex and the City because she doesn't want Sarah Jessica Parker to steal the limelight.

But Parker told US chatshow host Larry King the door had been left "nicely open" for a movie, saying Kim, 48, was "fantastic."

Parker, speaking after the finale of the hit show was screened in the US, said: "I don't think anybody is really like Samantha. She's done an amazing job of making that character funny and sexy, and bawdy and sympathetic."

Parker admitted she's more prudish than her alter ego Carrie Bradshaw. The American comedy is credited with depicting women who have no problem talking openly about men and sex.

But Parker told US chatshow host Larry King: "I was never somebody that could share those details in that kind of candid conversation, it just wasn't my style."

"I've known versions of Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte. But I've also been in a room with my friends when they've felt really comfortable and talked about their husbands or boyfriends and some intimate things."

"Somebody will look at me and say 'I forgot you were here. 'I know you don't want to hear this', because it's always embarrassing for me."

Parker said she will be meeting the show's other three actresses but only after catching up with family and friends.
