HE dominated our TV screens with his heavyweight presence in a Cracker of a TV series between 1993 and 1996...
And now, Fitz could be back! "There could be a new Cracker," says Jimmy McGovern , who created the series, which won six BAFTAs.
Robbie Coltrane, who memorably played criminal psychologist Dr Eddie Fitzgerald, is now being invited to consider returning to the role for which he won three BAFTAs.
Jimmy, whose latest drama, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot concludes on BBC2 this Sunday, adds: "It would depend on Robbie's availability, but I have found an interesting story - a modern, post 9/11 story.
"If it happens, it would be a one-off, two-hour special - and very different from previous Cracker stories.
"Robbie has said he'd do another one if I wrote it, but I kept saying I had nothing I wanted to write about. Robbie plays Hagrid in the Harry Potter films and is a much in-demand actor, but I think he'll say yes - schedule permitting."
If everything does fall into place, Jimmy reckons millions of Cracker fans could see the results in two years' time - which would be the 10th anniversary of the first screening of the last special, which was written by Paul Abbott, of Shameless, Clocking Off and State of Play fame.
Cracker, which was known for its brilliant writing and acting, also starred the likes of Christopher Eccleston (DCI David Bilborough);
Geraldine Somerville (DS Jane "Panhandle" Penhaligon); Lorcan Cranitch (DS Jimmy Beck);
Barbara Flynn (Judith Fitzgerald) and Ricky Tomlinson (DCI Charlie Wise) - while guest stars included Robert Carlyle, Adrian Dunbar and Samantha Morton.
