I've already invited Keith Richard. He just said 'Absolutely, mate' .. I'm also planning on calling Jimmy (Page), Jeff (Beck), and Pete (Townsend) to ask them if they want to play too."
Even though such luminaries have received far more of the limelight, Burton is adamant that he is more than satisfied with his lot. "I think it's wonderful that so many great guitarists respect me for my work. I've never wanted for anything else because I've always been so busy working with so many other great entertainers. I've had a wonderful career."
The money raised from the festival will be used to fund a musical scholarship for youngsters in Shreveport's acclaimed seats of learning and thereby fulfil one of his remaining ambitions.
"I want to build a future for the young musicians coming up," he concludes, before adding a few sage-like words on how to get where you want to go.
"The main thing is to be there at the right time and the right place and you can only do that by playing wherever you can. You never know who's going to be watching and who is going to see you."
Burton will be supported by a quality band with 60's recording star Dave Sampson on vocals. Sampson toured with the Larry Parne's show with such artists as Billy Fury and Marty Wilde.
On drums is Clem Cattini, one of the original Tornados who recorded Telstar and is a one-time member of Billy Fury's backing group. Guitarist Ray Fenwick has played with Spencer Davis Group and the Ian Gillan Band. On keyboards is Chris Parren and the bassist is Colin Farley formerly of US band Cutting Crew.
