Oct 13 2006

By Catherine Jones, Liverpool Echo

THE caped crusader could be on his way to Liverpool.

Film location manager Robin Higgs was in the city yesterday looking at locations for the sequel to the smash movie Batman Begins.

The 2005 film featured British star Christian Bale as Batman - and his alter ego Bruce Wayne - and explored how the superhero came to first have and use his powers.

It was filmed in Iceland, Chicago and London and at Britain's famous Shepperton Studios.

Now the follow-up, which is due to start filming early next year, could feature scenes shot in Liverpool if movie-makers like what they see.

Thenew film, called The Dark Knight, will feature Oscar contender Heath Ledger as villain The Joker.

A spokesman for Liverpool Film Office said today: "Robin Higgs was in Liverpool scoping out the city, mainly along the waterfront.

"He's looking to bring the director Christopher Nolan up at the end of the month. However, they are also looking at Yorkshire, Glasgow and parts of London as well.

"Filming will start in 2007 and the film is due out during Capital of Culture year."

The Liverpool Film Office was established in 1989.

The main objectives are to supportlocal film makers and to promote Liverpool to national and international producers and film directors.
