Being close to death made Daniel re-think life - and music

"I'm just desperate to get these songs out and unfortunately 12 songs on an album every two years is not enough. "

When sales for his last album Second First Impression did not fare quite as well as his debut, some claimed the problem was that he was not in a relationship. Four different girls were said to have inspired the heartfelt and often longing lyrics on Daniel's first album.

Daniel scoffs at such a suggestion: "That's rubbish. Why are you writing songs? To sell albums or to reflect on what your life is like at the time? There's not been any girls on the horizon and I have just been writing about other things."

Which begs the question, which girls would Daniel like on that horizon?

"Natalie Portman, no Lucy Liu . . . Maria Sharapova has got amazing legs . . ."

Off he goes again.

* DANIEL BEDINGFIELD plays the Summer Pops on Thursday, July 14.
