This friendly and witty trio of student, social worker and musician respectively were the caretakers waiting to greet the Post yesterday afternoon.
"It was just like fixing a giant puncture on a bicycle," explained Tony from Wavertree matter of factly.
They said that the problems started a week last Saturday, the afternoon after opening night.
A big group of local youngsters turned up but because those under 16 must be attended by an adult they weren't allowed in en masse. A couple of them were escorted around but they suspect that the attack later that evening may have been prompted by the refusal.
The affable caretakers have adopted a pragmatic approach to it all. One of them said: "Personally I think that if people who live around here had been invited to look around on opening night instead of those who just come along for the vol-au-vents then everything would have been OK."
After being asked to remove shoes and don a coloured cloak of choice - the Post chose red, although purple is a favourite with visiting Goths - the plunge was taken through the slit in the fabric.
Even though it's designed as an interactive experience for larger groups of people, as a solitary one it's pleasurably disorientating.
With no sounds other than compressed air and the drifting ambient tones of composer Stephen Montague, it's like being in a maze locked inside a multi-hued cavern of an enchanted mountain.
