And, with obvious honesty and humility, he adds: "I never thought we'd be talking about all those times again now - it constantly surprises me. The great thing about being in a group is travelling to a lot of different places, and we'd meet so many people who liked us and could relate to it.
"It happened in Liverpool (a place we always loved playing), with that famous gig at Erics in Mathew Street in May, 1977, when the audience included people like Pete Wylie, Ian McCulloch and Julian Cope.
"I've been back many times since and I'm really looking forward to Saturday's gig."
