Time to get the pints in and turn our attentions to The Street . . .
Jimmy says: "I don't know whether the BBC will feel they have to change the title to avoid confusion with Coronation Street. I know people in the business refer to Coronation Street as The Street but, outside, I'm sure it's more commonly called Corrie.
"I'm really pleased with it. It will feature some really great actors, including Jim Broadbent, Timothy Spall, Jane Horrocks and Sue Johnston and I'm really buzzing about it - I'm more excited about this than Cracker.
"It will be challenging, but funny as well. The idea behind it is that it could be any street in any city - it's like the voice over on that show
'There are eight million stories in The Naked City - this has been one of them'."
The six, one-hour long, individual stories are currently being filmed in Manchester for broadcast next year, although the city is never mentioned. It could be any northern terraced street.
Jimmy explains: "It was going to be set in Liverpool - in a Kensington side street - and years ago I would have fought for that.
"But I grew sick and tired of people writing into the ECHO saying 'Why do people like Jimmy McGovern show us in a bad light?' It happened with The Lakes, where I was criticised for showing the main character, Danny Kavanagh, leaving Liverpool for a new life in Cumbria - he was filmed leaving Garrick Street, off Smithdown Road, where I lived for 10 years.
"I've given up now because of the stick, but I think it's a f*****g shame that people are so sensitive here - people don't do it in Manchester.
