THE Mothaks air crash occurred in Speke, July 20, 1965, at just after 6.17pm when a Cambrian Airways' Vickers Viscount crashed into a mothball-making factory. There was slight drizzle, but otherwise good visibility.
Two women working overtime were killed, but, had the crash been 30 minutes earlier, hundreds would have died. Luckily, the plane was flying empty from the Isle of Man.
The aircrew were highly experienced, but overshot the runway, banked sharply and hit the factory. The resulting mushroom cloud and shock waves could be experienced for miles around. Several inquiries failed to establish the cause.
"Before the crash, a woman called Mrs James kept calling the airport and wrote to newspapers worried about cloud over the factory," says Tom Slemen.
"She dreamt again and again about this tragedy and it matched the location. People told her in dreams about the Mothaks crash."
