DEVOTEES of The Lord Of The Ringsare invited to a marathon nine-hour screening at Waterloo's Plaza Cinema next month.
Each of the films in Peter Jackson's version of J. R. R. Tolkien's incredible trilogy will be shown back-to-back on Sunday, May 2. They are also being shown individually on consecutive nights.
Since characters such as Frodo Baggins and Gandalf hit the silver screen in December 2001, the movie series has gone on to become on the most successful in cinematic history. It scooped up 11 Oscars alone for the final film in the series, The Return Of The King.
And Tolkien's tales are also the most widely read fiction books in the world with more than 100 million copies sold.
The films star Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and made household names for the likes of Elijah Wood (Frodo) Liv Tyler (Arwen) and Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn).
Plaza general manager Henry Howell said: "It's a great chance for fans of the film to see it on the giant screen for possibly the last time.
"A lot of people expressed an interest in us showing it again. I'm not sure if people will want to watch the films separately on each night or sit through the whole lot.
"We will have intervals between each movie while we change the reels over. It should be another good week for cinema."
The films will be show in order on separate nights from April 26-28 and again from April 29-May 1.
Sunday's marathon show-ing will start at 1pm and finish at approximately 10pm.
Tickets cost £6 for this showing and must be purchased in advance of the day.
