Comic's ads shelved after drink-drive charge

Mar 30 2005

Daily Post

CAR insurance adverts starring comedian Vic Reeves have been shelved after he crashed his Jaguar while allegedly over the drink-driving limit.

The 46-year-old has featured in Churchill Insurance's bulldog ads for more than five years, but the campaign has now been withdrawn.

Reeves - real name Jim Moir - was arrested by Kent Police on Friday following the crash near his rural home.

It is claimed his Jaguar ploughed into a Peugeot 106 in Maidstone, went up a bank and hit a fence.

The comedian has been charged with driving a vehicle while over the alcohol limit and leaving the scene of an accident. He will appear before magistrates in Maidstone on April 7.

A Churchill spokesman said: "We will be withdrawing our advert featuring Vic Reeves, while we review the situation."
