BOB Dylan's music has won him a place among the greats of popular music - but his voice is a different matter.
His distinctive style enthralls some but turns off others - so a BBC Radio Merseyside special aims to showcase the songs rather than the singer.
It Ain't Me Babe: The Songs of Bob Dylan goes out on Christmas Day from 3pm-5pm.
Jimmy McCracken, who co-hosts the show with Frankie Connor, said: "It features the songs of Bob Dylan, but performed by a variety of artists, not by the man himself.
"Dylan is probably the greatest ever singer-songwriter . His songs are poetry set to music. He has inspired many to pick up a guitar and open up their heart.
"He writes protests songs, mad rambling drug-fuelled epics full of imagery, love songs to his wife, love songs to somebody else's wife ... the sort of everyday stuff we can all identify with!
"But he is a writer, not a singer, and many people are put off listening to him because of his bloody awful voice. At best, it's an acquired taste, but one that many never accquire. So when his songs come on the radio, they switch off.
"This programme will attempt to remove that barrier, and allow people to enjoy his music, possibly for the first time.
"His songs have been covered by some of the greatest recording artists of the last 40 years and each one of them seems to take one of his songs and make it their own. No other writer's songbook has that quality."
