Peter Kay being made up as Abzorbaloff for TV series Doctor Who after writing a fan letter to writer Russell T Davies

THIS is Doctor Who's new foe Abzorbaloff, and he's hiding a familiar face behind the mask.

Peter Kay has swapped the comedy stage to play the Doctor's new enemy, who kills his victims by absorbing them into his massive body. Their faces can be seen through his translucent green flesh.

The Bolton funnyman was given the role in the new series of the sci-fi hit after he sent a fan letter to Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies saying how much he enjoyed the last series.

The Abzorbaloff was designed by nine-year-old William Grantham, of Colchester, Essex, for a "Design a Doctor Who Monster" competition held by Blue Peter last year.

Kay this week topped a list of the 100 funniest people alive in a survey by lads' magazine Zoo..

Kay's Doctor Who episode is due to be broadcast on June 17.
