ROLL UP, roll up for the Magical Mystical story coming our way ... There will be a celebration of Merseysound next month when Beatle Week hits town. And some special legends will be in town, including 60s flower power star Donovan. Liverpool's 2006 Beatle Week is going back in time - in true tradition. The event, which attracts 300,000 visitors each year, is getting better all the time and there are some extra-special gigs this year. It will feature bands and artists from more than 45 countries entertaining fans from all over the world. Tribute band The Bootleg Beatles are at the Empire on August 25 . The real Beatles actually played the venue seven times. And on August 26 there's a nostalgia show seeped in Merseybeat history. Says a spokesman: "The emphasis this year is on those contemporaries of the Beatles that helped shape and mould their music. "There's The Quarrymen - featuring four of the original members of John Lennon's school band. And Tony Sheridan who backed the Beatles and recorded with them in Hamburg." But one of the biggest coups is Donovan, the Sunshine Super-man. He was last in the city in 2005 for a sell-out at the Philharmonic Hall to celebrate 40 years in music. Donovan travelled with the Beatles to India to meet the Maharashi and he helped write Yellow Submarine and other songs on the White Album. He says: "I love the city, this special place that has created so many musicians and beat poets. "I always enjoy playing here and remembering my great friends -John, Paul, George and Ringo." On August 27, ex-Beatle drum-mer Pete Best will be starring at the Adelphi Hotel as part of the convention. And that's followed by the first Cavern 'all-nighter' in 40 years. The Empire hosts a musical memories night a day later on August 28 with the Merseybeats, Searchers, Swinging Blue Jeans, Undertakers, King-size Taylor and Beryl Marsden. And finally, on August 29, the beat goes on at the Cavern with Terry Sylvester who became the voice of The Hollies. For details, contact www.caverncitytours.com.
