Although little is known of this tradition it is thought the money was gathered through fines during the year and then redistributed to the poor of the parish.
The film, uncovered by North West Film Archive as part of a survey into Merseyside's film history, was found in Birkenhead Town Hall.
Geoff Senior, collections assistant at NWFA said: "One of the films that the survey has turned up is a carnival of perrying that took place in Prescot.
"It was the distribution of money collected from fines throughout the year.
"This documents the custom that we know very little about.
"We're hoping that when the film is shown more people will come forward with accounts of perrying, or stories handed down through the generations."
