Time's up for the beauty bullies

THESE days, natural, soap and water girls can only survive so long in school.

Why? Well, it seems that toxic beauty regimes have become de rigueur for alpha teens.

Bombarded with images of celebrities coloured, waxed, sculpted and perfected, many young women are now resorting to sun beds, bleach and eating disorders to achieve the desired look.

But who says you have to be a Paris Hilton clone to be gorgeous?

Unlike the fake beauty that designer clothes, hair extensions and burnt skin bring, real, inner beauty is no illusion. It's reflected in your eyes, your smile and your body - and it can't be bought.

So, if you're being brow beaten into being browner, thinner or trendier than you are - listen up - you're hurting your health.

New medical research shows that regular use of sun beds may damage your skin for life, causing premature ageing and increasing the risk of skin cancer, while skipping meals plays havoc with your blood sugar levels, your emotions as well as your well-being.

The trick to being and looking your best is simple - love life, love yourself and practice a few basic disciplines:

1. Don't diet. Eat three nutritionally balanced meals a day and say "no" to junk food.

2. Drink lots of water - at least 8 glasses a day. It clears out all the toxins in your body.

3. Exercise. 30 minutes of activity a day will keep you toned and less stressed - the result? A better body and clearer skin.

4. Sleep. Nothing robs you of vitality and health faster than a lack of kip. 8 hours should be sufficient.

5. Look after your skin. Avoid sun-beds. Wear sunscreen. And don't forget to cleanse.

6. Avoid or limit alcohol. It dehydrates your skin and can cause numerous health problems if taken to excess.

7. Last but not least - say no to drugs and cigarettes.

If you or your children have been bullied because of your image, we'd love to hear your story. Please contact us via www.liverpoolactivecity.co.uk
