Andy Stevenson (Mersey Valley Gc Professional) With His Golfing Tips, Daily Post
WHEN trying to play a delicate chip to the green out of lush grass, I tend to hit the ball too softly in fear of over-hitting the ball and end up stubbing the wedge into the ground, leaving the ball to travel just a yard or two forward. What is a good routine to ensure a positive contact?

IT IS vital when chipping to accelerate through impact, but when playing a delicate shot it is very easy to slow down and 'quit' on the shot.
You must control the length of your backswing. Focus on swinging back and through the same distance and keeping the rhythm the same for every shot. To ensure you accelerate through the ball finish the swing with your belly button pointing directly at the target.
Play this type of shot with soft hands which will help get the ball up in the air. Make sure you practice this shot on a regular basis, as it is very much a 'feel' shot.
