Alder Hey Must Stay Help save Alder Hey Hospital
Alder Hey Children's Hospital has outgrown its Liverpool site and desperately needs to expand. The most suitable location is Springfield Park - next door to the existing hospital - but this goes against Liverpool council's policy of protecting city parks, and is opposed by hundreds of West Derby residents. Hospital bosses are now considering moving to Widnes instead. Help us keep Alder Hey in Liverpool by leaving your messages of support here

Nice to see Alder hey has got what they wanted a public Park gone in exchange for 1200 place multi storey car park which the parents of sick children will have to pay to use. Nice one all the people who supported this scandel.

Margie from Pensacola Florida 03:06:01 22 November 2005
Even from a distance it's obvious that Alderhey must stay within the city and it's reputation enhanced not diminished. Let's not shoot ourselves in thefoot by playing around with this great insistution.

why are people fighting against a hospital? please be honest how many of you actually use Springfield park? It is run down and not at all looked after. This hospital is the best in the country so why are people preventing it from expanding, this will give Liverpool a good name and the people of Liverpool are trying to prevent this,,, WHY??? The park is vandilised by local gangs of kids and not really a safe place at all for kids to play as i find that there is always smashed glass and squashed cans which is dangerous for kids to be playing around. I dont take my daughter there i sooner take her to Croxeth Park. Please stop creating obstacles to the new and improved hospital. How long do you have to wait in a A E when you have to visit do you want to extend the waiting time for a child if the have to visit A E in Widnes please seriously think about you are all need to think before you prevent this any further. Please think of the children and how many lives this will help and save!!

Alder Hey must and will stay in liverpool - just not on springfield park. People should not worry about the threat of Widnes, it was only the hospital managers trying to get the park witout any opposition by means of blackmail.

Gordon Langshaw from West Derby 22:06:53 12 November 2005
Until recently, the hospital had an attractive avenue of Trees on the Alder Road side. About a year ago, the trees were cut down and the whole area paved for exlusive staff parking. So much for their concern for our local environment. I shudder to think what they will do if they get their hands on our park! The majestic line of black poplars which must be about 200 years old will probably get in th way and will be first to go.

Alderhey must stay in the liverpool area.I lost my dear daughter age 6 months and then went on to lose my dear son age 25 my son and myself spent more time at alder hey than we spent at home,no alder hey was more home to us. Ian my son was kept at alder hey until he was 19yrs old as they really took our feeling to heart as to how we would feel about being moved they where like my family and how dedicated all the doctors and nurses are not only to the patients but gave all the support to us parents also.My son passed away at the age of 25 in 2003 and yes it was alderhey again who gave me all there support and even arranged for me to see there own counsellor I must strongly urch that it is kept in our liverpool.I could never repay them for there wonderful services in my life time. Thanks

I HAVE MANY PRECIOUS MEMERIES OF ALDER HEY AND THE EXCELLENT WORK THEY DID WITH MY SON GEOFFREY - LEWIS YATES. UNFORTUNATLEY FOR US HE DIED BUT THIS HOSPITAL WAS LOCAL TO OUR HOME AND WITHOUT THIS VITAL HOSPITAL BEING SO NEAR WE AS A FAMILY WOULD NOT OF BEEN ABLE TO SPEND THE MOST PRECIOUS TIMES WITH OUR BABY. HE SPENT 20 WEEKS IN INTENSIVE CARE AND DIED AGED 8 MONTHS. PLEASE THINK BEFIRE YOU MOVE A HOSPITAL AWAY FROM AN AREA THAT DEPENDS ON IT. THE NURSES AND DOCTORS WERE TERRIFIC TO MY BABY AND OUR FAMILY. THE WORK THEY DID WAS CARRIED OUT WITH COMPASSION.

I think the people in charge are forgetting how famous Alder Hey is outside of the city. It should stay there without a doubt.

Susie from Liverpool 23:02:12 11 November 2005
Alder Hey must be kept in Liverpool. My sister spent most of her childhood there and owes her life to the fantastic staff of the hospital. Alder Hey must stay!

Laura from Liverpool 22:02:00 11 November 2005
I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Alder hey but i am and thats because they helped me to live the life which am living now (WHICH IS SUCH A HAPPY ONE) so please please (DON'T LET ALDER HEY LEAVE OUR HOME OF LIVERPOOL IT DESEVES TO BE HERE AND IT SHOULD STILL BE THERE FOR YEARS AND YEARS TO COME) thankyou to everyone who (HELPED ME THROUGH ME BEING SICK) DON'T LEAVE PLEASE

Frank from Liverpool 15:55:15 11 November 2005
Alder Hey and every other hospital in the country provide a taxi service to all their patients that cannot access public transport. This year Alder Hey have provided taxis to people who actually live in west derby as well as north wales liverpool airport the lake district anywhere that is needed. Also there are things called ambulances that collect sick people and take them to hospital. Unfortunatly Liverpool City Council dont offer this to residents who would like to take their children to the park. If Springfield Park is taken i will have to travel from Dovecot to either St Helens or Newsham Park. No one is asking for the hospital to go out of liverpool which will not happen anyway, we are just asking for it to choose an alternative site of which many are available within the city boundary. please look at what you are arguing with your fellow neigbours about when you should be challenging the hosptal management with their blackmail tactics

laura from Kirkby, Liverpool 14:43:41 11 November 2005
The city of Liverpool needs a childrens hospital and we have a chance to have one of the best so all of these people that are fighting this i do not understand do you people have children? have your children ever needed to go to Alder Hey? If so all the people that cannot and do not drive how are they supposed to get to the hospital if they ever need to take their children there?? Nobody uses that park for anything in particular there are plenty of parks around the area for mums/dads to take their children to. please people stop fighting this and think of the lives of children and their health!!!!

Lisa Fullam from Liverpool 12:49:47 11 November 2005
A Park!!! A hospital!! Which is more important? There should not really be a need to think about this. Alder Hey Should Stay!!!!!!

Lynn from Liverpool 11:30:05 11 November 2005
There is no question as to the importance of the hospital in the lives of children and families. The hospital MUST STAY IN LIVERPOOL. Where ever and on which site it MUST STAY for all our sakes.

steve from runcorn 11:55:14 11 November 2005
Liverpools population stands at 441,477 while Widnes Population is 53,410 If everyone did their sums Royal Liverpool Childrens Hospital Trust would only be funded to support a population 8 times smaller than it current budget. I think the Executives at Alder Hey are pulling someones leg about moving.

brian turner from west derby 09:15:02 11 November 2005
People need to appreciate, how bad the situation has been around Alder Hey for residents for the past 10 years. At goodison Park and Anfield on match days - residents are always up in arms. Well imagine a match day monday to friday from 8am - to 7pm. that is the reality of the problems Adler Hey have caused - and have failed to do nything about despite residents asking for action. Im sorry - but residents need to be heard and feel appreciated first, before Alder Hey has any right to dictate to them how there neighbourhood will look for the next 100 years. Their are 2 issues - do alder hey have a right to dictate to the local residents, since they have ignored them for so long? How will this affect residents property values, ability to move home, disturbances, etc? Everyone wants to see it in Liverpool. Remember - we want alder hey - but we want a say in something which will effect our area for the next 100 years. And realise - a health park is not a public park.

I myself have very fond memories of Springfield park, and I don't want Alder hey all over it I have not seen the plans and as far as I know, The park will end up looking like a dough nut,we have lost green space at many of our parks Including Newsham park,Stanley park,The Mystery park In wavertree, to the mystery swimming baths!! whats going on in this Council? Mr Storey- Jackanory said his policy was to NOT use green space Btw,, I have heard they have no money to build this swimming dream,.due to the cost of the trams We should not give in to blackmail (Let us build on Springfield or we will move out of Liverpool) that is Blackmail and it doesn't work!!

My grandson Jacob was born in Ormskirk hospital in July 2003, he was transferred immediately to Alder Hey, and had the first of his many life saving operations. Jacob altho now over two, has spent a great deal of his life in Alder Hey, and owes his life to the staff there. We live in Southport so my daughter stayed at the Macdonalds House in the grounds of the hospital, the support from both hospital and macdonald staff was absolutely amazing. Its unthinkable, that my birth city will lose Alder Hey, surely its the pride of the city. Alder Hey is part of Liverpool, part of all the good things about Liverpool. We live in Southport, and dont even have a childrens dept and have to travel to Ormskirk, and more often than not transferred to Alder Hey from there. Travelling to Widnes would be a nightmare. Surely its easier to get to a bit of green a little further away when healthy than it is to take a sick child miles away for the treatment they require. Dont lose it Liverpool

sandra from liverpool 15:31:42 10 November 2005
my grandchildren use alderhey as my own children did keep in here in liverpool after all u might get a ambuance to take but how will u get home if they move far away

Maureen from Wirral 15:02:32 10 November 2005
Is Gordon from West Derby having a laugh? I have been to Arrowe Park a twice since they have changed the parking arrangements, both times in an emergency. It is almost impossible to park at any time. We need a dedicated childrens hospital. Please think of the consequences for the children of Liverpool and the surrounding areas. They deserve the best and Alder Hey is the BEST. Do not let anybody take it away from us.

Tracey from Liverpool 14:43:10 10 November 2005
Alder Hey MUST stay in Liverpool...how on earth can we call ourselves Capital Of Culture, when we are planning on moving the only Childrens Hospital to Widnes?? Utterly ridiculous proposition, I cannot believe the selfishness of these residents opposing the rebulid on 'Springfield Dogs Toilet' Can't you get a life!!..and give our children's lives a chance..

Peter Smith from Liverpool 14:31:23 10 November 2005
I think they should demolish Alder Hey so Daniel Reid can visit his auntie and park right outside her house!! Why dont people like him stop being so selfish and look at providing a World class health facility for the children of the north west.
