TESTS have shown that Aston Martin's stunning new One-77 is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 200mph.

Carried out in secret at proving grounds in southern Europe, the tests have proved that one of the world's most exotic sports models has exceeded expectations by topping 220mph - a staggering achievement for the famous British firm.

Expected to cost around £1.2 million when deliveries start in Spring, the exotic carbon fibre Aston is powered by a new 7.2-litre V12 engine honed to deliver breathtaking levels of power and performance in a two-seat coupe boasting active aerodynamic technology.

'This is the ultimate expression of what Aston Martin stands for and will combine modern technology and design with craftsmanship and ultimate exclusivity to create the world's most desirable automotive art form. It has moved us closer to setting a new all-time speed record for the company.

'As name suggests, production is limited up to a maximum of 77 individually numbered examples,' said a spokesman.

Even before it goes on sale, the six-speed automated manual transmission model is thought to have already attracted more than 50 confirmed orders.
