A NATIONAL Trust property, Speke Hall is one of the most famous timber-framed houses in England.
There are gardens and woodlands to explore, plus an estate walk and a newly-established play area (pictured) which gives children the scope to enjoy themselves in a safe, stimulating environment.
Costumed tours of the Tudor house help to illuminate the history behind the house and Home Farm, built in 1885 is a model farm including cow sheds, pig sties, a cart shed and a smithy.
A shop, restaurant and extensive visitor facilities all make for a pleasant visit.
Speke Hall is also the starting point for regular minibus tours to 20 Forthlin Road, home of the McCartney family through the early Beatle years. Tickets for the tours leave 3.10pm and 4.00pm Wed-Sat, April to December
