Rich slave merchants and abolitionists alike were influential across the city and play a large part in the history of the city and its docklands.
Merseyside Maritime museum have a permanent exhibition dedicated to the transatlantic slave industry. The exhibition tells the story of the slave trade business; the people forced into slavery and it abolition.
The Maritime museum provide a detailed plan for the slave history trail which takes you round famous streets, houses and docks which played a part in the trade. As well as the history trail the Maritime museum also launched the annual international day of remembrance of the slave trade and its abolition.
